Alaska employers who pay wages of $1,500 or more in any calendar quarter or employ one or more workers in 20 weeks of a calendar year must register with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development for unemployment insurance. New employers pay a standard UI tax rate on the first $49,700 of each employee wages.
